An open-source alternative to Qwilr.
Web-based proposals clients read on any device, with per-section tracking and deposits, in an open-source tool you control.
What to weigh up.
We've kept to what PitchMagpie does. Qwilr's plans change, so check its current pricing page for the right-hand column.
| What to compare | PitchMagpie | Questions to ask of Qwilr |
|---|---|---|
| Source code | Open source, developed in public | Can you read the code or run it yourself? |
| Pricing | One plan per user, every feature included, free trial | Which features need a higher plan? |
| Tracking | Reading time per section, per recipient, live | Is tracking per document, or per person and section? |
| Signing | Typed, drawn or uploaded; signing order; SHA-256 fingerprint; audit trail | Are e-signatures included in the plan you'd buy? |
| Payments | Deposits through your own Stripe account, no platform fee | Is there a fee on payments, and which plan has them? |
| Your data | Full export as JSON, PDFs and images, at any time | What can you export if you leave? |
| API | REST API and signed webhooks | Which plan includes the API? |
Why teams look for a Qwilr alternative
Qwilr is known for web-page style proposals rather than PDFs. The usual reasons to look elsewhere are cost as the team grows, features locked to higher plans, and wanting control over where client data lives. PitchMagpie has one plan with every feature in it, priced per user, and since it's open source you can see exactly what happens to your clients' data and export all of it whenever you like.
Like Qwilr, PitchMagpie proposals are web pages, not PDFs, and a signed PDF is produced at the end for the record.
What you get with PitchMagpie
- Proposal tracking with reading time per section, for each recipient, live
- E-signatures with signing order, required fields and a signed PDF with an audit trail
- Deposits paid by card through your own Stripe account
- Interactive pricing with optional items, discounts and conditional sections
- Templates and a section library, with variables that fill themselves in
- Slack, Teams, Xero, a REST API and webhooks
Switching over
Start by rebuilding your most-used proposal as a PitchMagpie template, and move your standard sections (about us, process, terms, packages) into the library. Variables like {client.company} replace the merge fields you already use. Proposals already out for signature can finish where they are.
What PitchMagpie doesn't do (yet)
There's no direct CRM integration yet (HubSpot is planned), and no custom domains for proposal links. The API and webhooks can fill the gap in the meantime.
Frequently asked
Is PitchMagpie a good Qwilr alternative?
If you want proposal tracking, e-signatures and deposits in one plan, with no features held back for a higher tier, yes. If you rely on a direct CRM integration, check our roadmap first.
Can I move my proposals from Qwilr?
There's no automatic import. Most teams rebuild their main templates and library sections, which usually takes an afternoon.
How much does PitchMagpie cost?
